Bourjois Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet

Bourjois Rouge Edition Souffle de VelvetI love the matte lipstick trend at the moment, and to be honest was a fan of matte liquid lipstick far before they reached the heady nights of popularity. One of the earliest companies to jump on the bandwagon were Bourjois with their Rouge Velvet Matt liquid lipsticks. These lipsticks have been out for a couple of years, and are staples in my lipstick wardrobe. Full of pigment, long lasting a wear well, as a really excited with the idea of a lighter version, ideal for spring and summer. They are described as  “a veil of matte, elegant & discreet lip colour..and so light to wear!”

So that was me running off to the shops as soon as they were released!

Bourjois Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet presentation

Presentation wise they are very pretty. I like the fact that you can see the colour without opening the tubes. What did strike me as strange, was that of the 8 shades, many of them looked the same. For some reason I found that this made it difficult to chose a couple of shades to purchase. After much deliberation (I can’t rush when it comes to make up choices), I settled on ravie en rose and fushiamallow.

As you can see from the swatches above, they are more sheer than the rouge edition velvety (I have placed the similar colours of peach club and frambourjoise Bourjois Rouge Velvet Matt liquid lipsticks as comparison.

How did Bourjois Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet fare on the lip test?

On the lips they offer the lightest hint of matte colour. Good so far. 15 minutes later I looked at my lips, and they looked awful. The colour had bunched up and made my lips look awful. I looked like I’d got the flakiest, driest lips in the world. Hmm. Ok, maybe my lips were dry? They hadn’t felt dry or flaky at all however just to be safe a few days of lip balm later, along with some lip scrubbing action I tried again. 15 minutes later I looked in the mirror and again the lipstick was horrible. I’ve tried this several times since and exactly same result every time! I am so disappointed. If you’d like to read official Bourjois description click here

These just did not work for me, no matter what I tried. It’s a shame because I really like the idea of these.
